In a process to prepare drinking water or water for general other use from raw water, ultraviolet light is directed at the raw water producing a photoelectric effect which is overlain with a changing ion stream generated by a direct electrical current. The photo-electric effect ionises atoms which then join the general flow of ionised particles. The ionised particles take part in the local electro-physical or electrochemical processes binding and filtering free impurities. The ionization process is promoted by the presence of catalysts esp. platinum and the presence of supplementary electrical, magnetic or electro- magnetic fields, lowering the ionization threshold.
