The blue reflectance value of pre-delignified and pre-bleached wood pulp can be increased and its kappa value decreased under relatively gentle conditions. Hydrogen peroxide (2 to 4 wt.%) is added in the 2nd stage of a multi-stage process. Starting at 80 deg C, the temperature is increased 5 - 30 deg C from stage to stage, if necessary adding further quantities of H2O2.
