OPHTHALMIC COMPOSITIONS FOR SOFT CONTACT LENS, METHOD OF ENHANCING WETTABILITY OF SOFT CONTACT LENS, AND METHOD OF INHIBITING TERPENOID ADSORPTION

An ophthalmic composition for soft contact lenses (SCLs) which contains a terpenoid as the active ingredient; another ophthalmic composition for SCLs which further contains a polyoxyethylene sorbitan ester; a method of enhancing the wettability of SCLs which comprises bringing a terpenoid into contact with the SCLs; and a method of inhibiting terpenoid adsorption onto SCLs which comprises incorporating a polyoxyethylene sorbitan ester into an ophthalmic composition containing a terpenoid. The ophthalmic composition containing a terpenoid functions, for example, to improve the wettability of SCLs and thus inhibit the water content of the SCLs from decreasing. It is hence effective in inhibiting a dry feeling or an incomfortable feeling during SCL wearing. It is thus useful for enhancing the wettability of SCLs. By incorporating a polyoxyethylene sorbitan ester, the terpenoid is inhibited from being adsorbed onto SCLs.
