The apparatus to monitor yarn tension has a tensed beam (1) with a section (A) to measure the action of the yarn (4) which applies a force (F) on it as it passes over its end. An additional measurement section (B) is fitted to the beam (1), at a gap from the first section (A) along the beam. The beam (1) has at least two pairs of measurement sections (A, A1, B, B1), each with sections on opposite surfaces (14, 15) of the beam (1). The measurement sections are expansion measurement strips, or they each form a Wheatstone bridge. The beam (1) is secured to a relatively stiff arm (2), with a yarn guide (3) at its free end with a wear-resistant surface and pref. of a ceramic. The beam can be a ceramic strip body, carrying the measurement sections, and a holder at each end. An elastic mantle is round the measurement sections between the beam ends.
