The column covering (10) is fitted in the interior of the vehicle. It has one part (11) which passes at least partly round a fixed column. There is at least one region of this part, which in its normal position could hinder the exit of a passenger, made able to move relative to the fixed column, taking it out of the way and into an exit position (22). In the case of a door column, the covering part region is moved by operating elements (19) activated when the door is opened.
