Epithesis framework in facial injuries

The supportive framework of the epithesis is made as a wax or plastics model which poured with metal or plastics give a face-adapted framework which when cased in soft plastics and shaped to match the face can be permanently joined to spectacle frame. The connections between spectacles and epithesis can be by adhesive, solder, screws or other mechanical fastening. The facial contours are reproduced in a plaster case and the spectacles reduced in thickness at frame top and sides to suit epithesis framework. A wax model is made of face in e.g. nose-retaining format for producing a negative casting in permanently soft plastics to form the nose shape so framework can be fastened to the frame of the spectacles to restore normal appearance.
