Method of truing polishing tools for polishing optical lenses

The freely rotating polishing tool (7) is lined up with a truing tool (17) which is either locked or rotated about its own axis. The relative movement between the active cutting face of the truing tool and the polishing tool runs according to the contour to be produced which takes place through a common controlled process of the Z-slide carriage (2) and X-slide carriage (3) and also through rotation of polishing tool where appropriate. The truing method is followed by the polishing process which is carried out either on a second machine or on the two-spindle polishing and truing machine. Independent claims are also included for two-spindle polishing and truing machine with vertically movable Z-slide carriage holding tool spindle and polishing tool as well as horizontally movable X-slide carriage.
