<p>A process for preparing optically active diols represented by general formula (II), wherein R1 represents (CH¿2?)n (wherein n is an integer of 1 to 4), CH=CH, O, S or NH; R?2¿ represents hydrogen, C¿1-6?-alkyl, C1-6-alkoxy, (C1-6-alkoxy)carbonyl, hydroxy, carboxy, halogeno, nitro or amino, characterized by treating a compound represented by general formula (I), wherein R?1 and R2¿ are each as defined above with a microorganism belonging to the genus Rhodococcus, Bacillus, Brevibacterium, or Gordona and having a capability of stereoselectively converting a double bond of ring A into a single bond having vicinal hydroxyl groups, or a culture or optionally treated cells of Mortierella vinacea.</p> |
