ACRYLONITRILE-BASED PRECURSOR FIBER FOR CARBON FIBER, PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME, AND CARBON FIBER OBTAINED FROM THE PRECURSOR FIBER

An acrylonitrile-based precursor fiber obtained by spinning an acrylonitrile copolymer (which contains at least 90 wt.% acrylonitrile monomer units and has a carboxylate group content of 5.0x10<-5> to 2.0x10<-4> eq/g and a content of sulfate and/or sulfonate groups of 0.5x10<-5> eq/g or higher, and in which the counter ions for the carboxylate, sulfate, and sulfonate groups are protons and/or ammonium ions) and treating the spun copolymer, characterized by having an iodine adsorption of 0.8 wt.% or lower based on the fiber. Use of this precursor fiber facilitates the production of a high-strength, high-modulus carbon fiber.
