SIMULTANEOUS DECODING AND PHASE SYNCHRONISATION USING THE CRITERION OF MAXIMUM LIKELIHOOD

The invention concerns in particular a method for simultaneous decoding and phase synchronisation using the criterion of maximum likelihood. The method is applied to signal packets received at receiver level, said received signals having been subjected to convolutional coding at transmitter level. The method consists in computing branch metrices taking into account hard decisions computed on the received symbols an a value taking into account the phase error between said received signal carrier and the local oscillator signal used at receiver level, said value weighting the decision variables constituted by the complex digital components of the received symbols. The invention is characterised in that said value is equal to (a) for each of the paths examined, with (I) * representing the conjugate complex number, k the current decoded symbol and N the number of symbols considered.
