A method for producing a phosphodiester-ligand-analyte conjugate, which comprises (a) reacting a polar phospholipid with a ligand to produce a polar phospholipid-ligand composite and (b) reacting the polar phospholipid-ligand composite with an analyte capable of coupling to the ligand of the polar composite, to produce the phosphodiester-ligand-analyte conjugate. The conjugate is subsequently purified, preferably using preparative chromatography, and then incorporated into immunoactive liposomes.
