PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dry the clothes to be dried without any entanglement despite of inputting a lot of clothes to be dried by setting the rotation speed of a drum based on the detection result of a clothes quantity detection means and control ling the motor in such a state as normally/reversely rotating the drum at this set speed. SOLUTION: In operating a drier, a controller 30 starts the drying operation when a start switch in a switch input part 33 is operated from a waiting state in inputted a power supply to energize a heater and at the same time rotate the motor 10 in the normal rotation direction. The clothes to be dried in the drum are stirred thereby and dried by a hot air fed therein. Then the quantity of the clothes to be dried is detected by counting quantity signals S1 inputted from an electrode 28 via a detection circuit 34. The drive content of the rotation of the drum 4, namely the rotating speed of the drum, the number of the normal/reverse rotation of the drum, etc., are set according to the detected quantity of the clothes to be dried.
