PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an α-olefin oligomer such as of 1-hexene in remarkably high yield, selectivity, and productivity by subjecting α-olefin to oligomerization reaction while preventing any side products from adhering to the wall of the reactor. SOLUTION: This method is to continuously produce an α-olefin oligomer by subjecting α-olefin to oligomerization reaction using a chrome-based catalyst, wherein there is used a reacting apparatus provided with a circulating flow channel running from a reactor to return thereto through the intermediary of a heat exchanger, the flow rate per hour through the channel is set to 3 to 10 times the quantity of the liquid remaining in the reactor, and the reaction is carried out under the condition that the temperature θ of the refrigerant in the heat exchanger and the reaction temperature T satisfy the equation of 100 deg.C<θ<T-5 deg.C. |
