PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide more reliable protection of occupants by deploying an air bag from its center. SOLUTION: An air bag 1 folded into a predetermined rectangular shape is locked by an annular inflation restraining member 3 at each corner 1a and is stored in the pad of a steering wheel not shown in the figure. When a gas is produced by the ignition of an inflator not shown in the figure, the gas is supplied into the air bag 1, and when the pressure on the pad from the air bag 1 reaches a predetermined value, the pad is ruptured from a tear line. Then, since each corner 1a is locked by the inflation restraining member 3, the air bag 1 is rotated outward with the fulcrum being the end position of each corner 1a, and is inflated and deployed from its center. The ends are inflated after a delay from the inflation of the center, and when the ends are inflated to some extent, the locking of each corner 1a by the inflation restraining member 3 is released, permitting the ends to inflate and deploy. Thus, sudden deployment of the air bag 1 is prevented to permit more reliable protection of occupants without time possibility of injuring the occupants when it is deployed. |
