<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for welding silica glass, producing no welding defects, e.g. insufficient fusing, by bringing a silica glass welding material into contact with the silica glass work at an angle, and heating a space around the joint by flame while pressing the welding material to the work at a position off the welded surface. SOLUTION: This method (A) keeps a work 1 to be welded, e.g. silica glass sheet, heated to 800 deg.C or more at the portion to be welded and its vicinity before welding to prevent spalling, (B) brings an edge 5 of a rod-shaped welding material 2 of silica glass into contact with the work 1 at an angle of 0.1 to 2.0 deg., to prevent diffusion of a flame or expansion of its width, when it hits the work 1, and (C) selectively heats the welding surface below the welding material 2 by a flame from an oxyhydrogen burner, directed toward a space between the work 1 and welding material 2, while keeping the welding material 2 pressed to the work 1 by applying a load 4 to the former at a position off the welding point, to indirectly press only the welding point, thereby promoting fusing/welding at the joint and preventing troubles, e.g. formation of bubbles or insufficient fusing.</p> |
