PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a lower end of a container accurately, align a corner flipper with metal fittings at a lower corner of the container in height easily and accurately, and prevent damage to a connection line of a hydraulic hose and an electric cable between a spreader and a flipper beam. SOLUTION: A flipper beam 7 having a corner flipper 8 is provided along an end face of an end beam 5 of a spreader 1 in such a way that it can ascend, descend, and move, two right and left wires 14, 14 from a bi-barrel drum of the end beam are vertically and downward conducted along both end fringes of the end beam, and an end of each wire is tied to a position across the center of gravity of cross sections of the flipper beam 7 and the corner flipper 8. An attaching and detaching means 9 having a lock pin 9a in an opening on a side face of a metal fitting 50b at a lower corner of the spreader or a container 50 is provided in a vertical side face part of the corner flipper 8, rotary encoder 23 for detecting up and down travel amount of the flipper beam 7 is provided in the interlocking relationship with the bi-barrel drum, and a sensor 26 which detects a lower end of the container which crosses each lower corner part of the container diagonally in a horizontal plane is provided on the flipper beam 7.
