PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable heating of a local part of a living body with a higher concentration for the treatment of cancer or the like by a method wherein a magnetosensitive heating body mainly composed of microscopic particles of iron based oxide with a specified value of a relative permeability is arranged inside a living body while arranging an alternating magnetic field generator outside the living body to form a magnetic flux passing through the living body. SOLUTION: This heater effective for local thermotherapy in vivo is provided with a magnetosensitive heating body S which is arranged inside a living body and is mainly composed of fine particles of iron-based oxide with a relative permeability of 100-2,000 and an alternating magnetic field generator H to form a magnetic flux through the living body. The fine particles of the magnetosensitive heating body S is prepared to be pasty, gelatinous or in other states using agar, gelatin or the like as assistant. The alternating magnetic field generator H is so arranged to have an air core coil allowed to engage the living body 10 and to make a pair of magnetic poles 5 and 5' of an electromagnetic 3 serve as a magnetic output part. Preferably, reciprocally rotating mechanisms 8 and 8' are provided to reciprocally rotate the electromagnet centered on a specified position inside the living body 10.
