PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a ceramic capable of being machined, excellent in machinability and heat resistance, stably usable in a high- temperature environment for a long period of time. SOLUTION: This method for producing aluminum titanate powder comprises subjecting a raw material mixture composed of 100 pts.wt. of the total of equimolar amounts of Al2 O3 and TiO2 , 2-5 pts.wt. of SiO2 , 2-5 pts.wt. calculated as Fe2 O3 of iron oxide and 1-3 pts.wt. of organic substance powder to pressure forming, baking the formed material in a closed container at 1,600-1,700 deg.C and grinding. The method for producing the sintered compact of aluminum titanate comprises molding aluminum titanate powder obtained by the production and baking the molded material at 1,450-1,550 deg.C. |
