BLOCK COPOLYMER AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-luminance copolymer by selecting a copolymer composed of a block component comprising poly-N-vinylcarbazole and a block component comprising poly-2-β-naphthyl-5-(4-vinylphenyl)oxadiazole in a specified ratio. SOLUTION: This copolymer comprises structural units comprising poly-N- vinylcarbazole represented by formula I and structural units comprising poly-2-β- naphthyl-5-(4-vinylphenyl)oxadiazole represented by formula II which constitutes a block component having an electron transfer performance and having an average degree of polymerization of 10-1,000 in a molar ratio of 0.1/99.9 to 99.9/0.1. The copolymer is obtained by cationically polymerizing N-vinylcarbazole in the presence of a polymerization catalyst in a solvent to form an N- vinylcarbazole cation living polymer, adding 2-β-naphthyl-5-(4-vinylphenyl) oxadiazole and copolymerizing it with the living polymer.
