PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a copolymer, transparent, harmless to a living body, low in oxygen permeability and useful as a stock for water-soluble films by culturing a specific microorganism belonging to genius aureobasidium. SOLUTION: This copolymer having a molecular weight of 10,000 to 10,000,000, shown by the formula [(m/n) is 2.4 to 2.9], is obtained by culturing, in a medium, a microorganism belonging to genius aureobasidium (e.g. Aureobasidium pullulans APW-1) and exhibiting capacity for producing a-1,3-1,4- glucan. The copolymer is hydrolyzed by a-amylase into O-α-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→3)-O-α-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-D-glucose. |
