A rope comprises in combination a central core 1 of non-electrically conducting material and a number of concentric layers of strands 3, 4, 5, 6 laid helically around the core, the layers being arranged in pairs and in each pair the strands of one layer are laid of opposite lay to the other, but equal in number and in angle of lay thereto. The angle of lay is preferably constant in the various layers. A layer of braided material 2 may be positioned between the core 1 and the layer 3 and a final biaided layer 7 may complete the rope. |
