GENE TRANSFER THROUGH ELECTROPORATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To directly transfer a foreign gene into a plant tissue fragment or a callus without making it protoplasmic and with simplicity and rapidness by conducting electroporation under a specific condition. SOLUTION: The method of this invention is to transfer a foreign gene into a plant tissue fragment or a callus through electroporation where the electrical field is 50-500 V/cm, the length of the electric pulse is 30-200 msec and the impressing number of times is 5-25 times. It is preferable to immerse the plant tissue fragment or the callus into solution containing an osmotic pressure regulating agent and/or an intercellular dissociation enzyme for 15 min. to 5 hrs. before the electroporation.
