COUNTERWEIGHT ASSEMBLY

A pipelayer crawler machine has an elevated sprocket with a corresponding inclined link track. A counterweight assembly is mounted on one longitudinal side of the pipelayer, the counterweight assembly having a horizontal axis of rotation above the inclined link track. The counterweights retract to a narrow profile above the link track for shipping the pipelayer with the counterweight assembly intact and for maintaining appropriate balance in operation.
