The coupling assembly comprises an intermediate tubular member (4) inside the outer shaft (1) which fits over the end of the inner shaft (2), and an elastic insert (3) between the intermediate member and the inner shaft and fixed to the two. The outer shaft is joined to the coupling assembly so that it rotates and moves axially with it. The joint between the coupling assembly and the outer shaft can be in the form of interlocking shaped surfaces or a weld. Relative rotation of the coupling assembly and inner shaft can prevented by having flattened surfaces on one or both solid components.
