摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a stable display with high reliability by disposing scanning electrode members and signal electrode members so as to face each other via chiral nematic liquids specified in viscosity and impressing voltage thereon in an initial state, then providing the liquid crystals with plural quasi-stable states different from the initial state by the difference between the impressed voltages. SOLUTION: The scanning electrode 2 and the signal electrode 7 are so patterned as to intersect with each other and the intersected part thereof is formed as a pixel region. Further, the scanning electrode member 4 and the signal electrode member 5 are disposed to face each other via the chiral nematic liquid crystals 10. The chiral nematic liquid crystals 10 have a twist structure in the initial state and have the two quasi-stable states different from the initial state by the difference in the voltage impressed after the voltage to induce Frederick's transition is impressed thereon in the initial period thereof. The viscosityηat 20 deg.C of the chiral nematic liquid crystals 10 is set atη<=15 cps in this embodiment. As a result, a matrix driving characteristic is improved and a displayable temp. range is widened. Flickerless high-duty matrix driving is thus made possible.
