PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable bright display with excellent visibility by combining and using a reflection plate having a specific reflected light quantity distribution characteristic and a light diffusion layer. SOLUTION: When the light diffusion reflection plate laminated with the light diffusion layer is irradiated with light from a direction of an incident angle (-θ) -45 deg. and the angle dependent distribution curve of the reflected light quantity is measured, the light diffusion reflection plate has the reflected light quantity distribution curve in which at least one of the reflection angle θ' indicating the maximal value of the reflected light quantity deviates by >=5 deg. from the direction of +45 deg. with the normal. The light diffusion reflection plate laminated with such light diffusion layer and a polarizing plate are bonded to each other to form a reflection type polarizing plate which is then mounted on one surface of an STN type cell. A phase difference plate and a polarized light plate are successively mounted on the surface on the opposite side thereof, by which the reflection type STN type display device is obtd. When such reflection type STN type liquid crystal display device is driven, the display is bright and the visibility is good when the display is viewed from the angle evading the reflection of external light. |
