The sole plate of the iron has at least one row (R1, R2) of steam outlet holes (1, 2) along each of its lengthwise edges (3, 4), and a central zone (Z) devoid of holes between front (Z1) and rear (Z2) zones with holes (7). The holes in the front and rear zones (Z1, Z2) are of the same density. The holes in the front zone are grouped in forward and rearward pointing triangles, while those in the rear zone (Z2) are in a number of rows in a V-shape pointing towards the rear edge (8) of the iron, which also comes to a point (8a).
