PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retrieve information from a database without recognizing handwritten data as character code data. SOLUTION: An input part 101 outputs writing data as stroke data to a control part 105. The control part 105 stores the inputted stroke data in a handwritten memo database 102 and stores the stroke data as a retrieval mark in a mark database 103. The control part 105 classifies a stroke data group in page units by characterlike contents and figurelike contents and stores them as retrieval information in the handwritten memo data base. The control part 105 once receiving the specification of a retrieval mark or '-like contents' from the input part 101 performs retrieval from the mark database 103 and the handwritten memo database 102 to display writing data of a specific page unit at a display part 104.
