PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the low crosstalks and high output power of an optical switch using an impurity-added optical fiber. SOLUTION: This optical switch has an optical transmission path 10 on an input side to which signal light is inputted. The impurity-added optical fiber(EDF) 1 which is connected to the optical transmission path on the input side, an exciting light source 3 for inputting the exciting light via an optical branch 2 to the EDF 1 and the optical transmission path 20 on the output side connected to the output of the EDF 1. The optical strength of the exciting light is controlled, by which, the optical switch controls the light intensity of the exciting light in an on-state of the signal light inputted to the optical transmission path 10 on the input side by controlling the on-and-off of the signal light and controls the light intensity of the signal light outputted to the optical transmission path 20 on the output side. |
