PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting device capable of reducing the number of parts particularly, when it is used as a back light. SOLUTION: An LED element 2 irradiating ultraviolet beams or light with wavelengths close thereto is provided on an end face of a transparent body 1 consisting of a square plate-shaped resin containing a phosphorous substance. The ultraviolet beams emitted from the LED element 2 or the lights with their wavelength close thereto advance inside of the transparent body 1, and when they hit the phosphorous substance existing in the transparent body 1, the fluorescent substance radiates visible light, and this visible light is emitted from a light emitting face 1a. The phosphorous substance can exist as fine particles in the transparent body, each of such fluorescent substances diffusely emits visible light so that a diffusion plate or the like is not necessarily required. Consequently, the number of parts is reduced, and low cost can be realized. |
