PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the silver halide emulsion high in sensitivity and good in graininess and storage stability by containing flat silver halide particles having a specified average thickness subjected to reduction and containing a dispersion medium in the emulsion. SOLUTION: The emulsion contains the flat silver halide particles having principal faces 111} parallel to each other and an average particle thickness of <=0.12μm and subjected to reduction sensitization and it contains the dispersion medium. It is preferred that the flat particles have an average grain thickness of 0.03-0.07μm, and the flat particles are nucleated by using a medium of a gelatin in a pBr of 1-4. A preferable reduction sensitization agent is embodied by stannis chloride, thiourea dioxide, dimethylamineborane in a proper addition amount of 10<-7> -10<-3> mol per 1 mol of silver halide.
