<p>A self-clearing bone biting surgical instrument (5) comprises a stationary lower arm (20) including a lower arm recess (23), and a foot plate (29); a reciprocating upper arm (10) including a cutting tip (11) located at its distal end for engagement with the foot plate (29) in order to effect cutting, or punching of tissue positioned between the foot plate (29), and the cutting tip (11). An ejecting unit (60) movable within the lower arm recess (23) forcibly ejects debris lodged against the foot plate (29) as the upper arm (10) reciprocates rearward as part of the normal operating process of the instrument (5). A method of making a self-clearing bone biting instrument (5) of the invention is also disclosed.</p> |
