The invention concerns a device (1) separating two elements (2, 3) connecting electrically two circuits (C1, C2) in the presence of a fault current resulting from over-voltage and/or high heat build-up and/or an anomaly in one of the two electric circuits. One of the elements comprises at least a socket contact (5) and the other a pin contact (4) which, by the mutual engagement of the two elements (2, 3), is inserted into the socket contact (5) for setting up electrical connection between the two circuits (C1, C2). Said device, arranged in one of the elements, comprises a frame (8) housing a mobile jack (9) integral with an actuating mechanism (11) including triggering means (12), controlled by the fault current. The jack (9) by the action of the mechanism (11) is displaced towards the other element and acts in thrust on the latter to disengage them.
