The fuel inlet of the tank feed (22), and the course of the feed line in the tank are designed to reduce the temperature of the fuel leaving the tank, especially when the fuel level is low. An Independent claim is included for an accumulator located in a fuel tank and which has a valve (32) which closes the return to the accumulator and diverts it to another point in the tank when a predetermined fuel level is exceeded. The valve has a float which is buoyant on the fuel in the accumulator. With the tank one-third or less full, and especially a quarter or less, the feed leaving the tank has a temperature which at the most is higher by one third of the temperature difference between the temperature of the return (24) flowing into the tank and temperature of the fuel (18) located in the tank outside the accumulator (16) than the fuel located in the fuel tank but outside the accumulator.
