The image generation device has an electronic camera (1) with a zoom objective (2,3,4,5) having a computer-controlled focal width, for focussing an image of an object positioned in the focal plane of the lens system with a defined magnification onto an image sensor (6), using empirical control values stored within the computer (8) for motorised adjustment of the lens elements.
