Method for performing electrochemical measurements in a solution with a low electric conductivity, in which method the current flowing between a test piece and a counter-electrode placed in the solution is measured while the potential of the test piece is controlled in relation to a reference electrobe potential remaining constant. The counter-electrode and the test piece are disposed at a substantially close distance from each other so that in practice a currrent can only flow across the gap between their oppositely placed counterfaces, the potential difference between the reference electode and the test piece being measured outside the electric field between the test piece and the counter-electrode.
