The invention relates to a device for fixing a brake cable to a mechanically operated drum brake (1) with an operating lever (6). According to the invention, a brake cable (9) engages with said operating lever (6) at one first end (7) and at least one brake shoe (4) of the drum brake (1) is coupled at the second end (8). A brake cable end nipple which is thicker than the diameter of the brake cable is securely guided at the first end (6) of the operating lever during the assembly by a combined elastic element (15). When the brake cable end nipple (12) reaches its ready position, it catches securely on the operating lever (6). This ensures that an end of a brake cable which extends into the drum brake (1) can be slipped in automatically without visual checking. The particular advantage of the inventive system lies in the use of individual parts which are more simple and less costly in terms of production.
