The component is preferably formed as a wall or floor tile. Devices are provided for fixture and/or connection of the components at a distance from one another, and are positioned on the edge surfaces (7,9) of the components (1). Such devices each comprise at least one groove (8) or at least one tongue (10). On an edge surface parallel to the upper and lower side of the component a groove or a tongue is formed, which work in conjunction with a corresponding tongue or groove of another component. The component preferably with a rectangular or quadratic basic surface has four edge surfaces (7,9) and on two abutting edge surfaces grooves (8) running parallel to the upper and lower side of the component are provided and on the two other edge surfaces (9) tongues (10) are provided parallel to the upper and lower side of the component.
