Direct goods labeling method

The goods labeling method has machine-readable barcode characters applied to a rough or profiled surface of the item (9) using a mixture containing a white or brightly colored medium, which is heated prior to application for forming a background surface on which the required characters are printed after it has dried. The background surface may be provided by a spray coating device (10) positioned infront of the printing stage (11) in the transport direction (F) of a goods conveyor.
