The invention concerns a transport method, in particular public transport, comprising steps which consist in setting up a series of supports defining spans each equipped with a bracket; providing a support cable on said brackets, said cable extending freely from one bracket to the next; and providing a cabin on said support cable and causing it to circulate in the spans by the action of translation control means. For at least one of the spans, varying the height of the brackets relative to their supports within a travel (F), between low positions (Bmin, Cmin,...) and high positions (Bmax, Cmax,...), synchronised with the cabin translation displacement in this span such that, when the cabin passes over one of the brackets the latter is in its low position while the next bracket is its high position and, as the cabin moves towards said next bracket, the first bracket rises towards its high position while the next bracket goes down its low position, so that the lifting point of the cabin on the cable follows a substantially rectilinear trajectory between the low positions of said.
