A brush comprises a head (36) including a plurality of bristles (40), an outlet (42) in the head (36) feeding to said bristles (40), a container (12) of paste connected to said head (36), actuating means (18) for feeding paste from the container (12) to the head (36), and a control valve (30) of a flexible plastics material including a diaphragm portion (32) and a nose portion (34) and positioned within the head (36) with the central axis thereof substantially perpendicular to the direction of flow of paste to the head (36), the valve (30) having a normal rest position in which the nose portion (34) engages in, to seal, the outlet (42), the side of the diaphragm portion (32) remote from the nose portion (34) being open to the atmosphere, the arrangement being such that, on operation of the actuating means (18), paste is fed under pressure from the container (12) to the head (36) to distort the diaphragm portion (32) whereby the nose portion (34) is displaced from the outlet (42) and paste is dispensed therethrough, and, on subsequent depressurisation of the paste, the control valve (30) returns to its rest position. |
