Method and apparatus for controlling a welding unit

A signal is continuously variable using a controller (5) in a particular working mode on the welding unit. At least one switching signal can be produced by this controller in another working mode. A welding parameter is continuously variable by the first signal, and is shown on an indicator (1). The switching signal cancels and activates, or switches to other parameters. The indicator is located next to the controller on the face of the welding unit.
