<p>A portable electronic device (1) for storing and displaying information (3, 4), such as that found on business cards, comprising a magnetic card reader (5) a data store (12) and a display screen (6). The reader (5) transfers business details (3, 4) from a card (2) with a magnetic stripe to the device (1) when the card (2) is swiped through the reader (5). The business details (3, 4) are stored in a record of a database provided in the data store (12) and can be accessed by a keyboard (7) to be shown on the display screen (6). Business detail records retained in the store can be uploaded to a main contact database or downloaded in the appropriate direction via a serial communications link (18). The link may be a direct wired link (19) a wired link (19) in series with a wireless link (23) over a telephone network (24).</p> |
