<p>This invention relates to a method for electronically controlling an ultrasonic transducers phased array to scan an observation area, the ultrasonic transducers being usable as emitters or receivers and being arranged such that at least two lobe-shaped ultrasonic beams are generated in the observation area when they are exited by an electronic scanning signal. It comprises the step of emitting at least two lobes (8,9,9',10,10') of essentially similar amplitude from the phased array of ultrasonic transducers, progressively changing the direction of said lobes, whereby the relative angular distance (2. DELTAθo) between said lobes stays constant upon said change of direction, in order to scan a range of angles (θ), and by controlling said range of angles (θ) so as to scan with each lobe a different sector (S1,S2,S3) of said observation area corresponding to the size of the angular distance (2.
