The invention relates to combustion apparatus for generation of energy which contains a combustion chamber (3) for burning solid, finely divided, carbonated fuels and/or waste, and a cyclone (13) for melting down and subsequently burning the flue ash. A chamber (20) for subsequent combustion and provided with a baffle (25) is arranged between the cyclone (13) and the combustion chamber (3). The combustion apparatus is characterised in that the cyclone (13) is cylindrical in shape and is inclined to the horizontal, the flue ash is introduced on a secant (14) and the combustion air and additional fuel are each introduced on a tangent (16) through feed nozzles into the cyclone (13), and that there is a partition (19) between the cyclone (13) and the chamber (20) for subsequent combustion. Said partition has a gas outlet (23) in the middle and a slag outlet (21) at the bottom. The invention also relates to a method of operating said combustion apparatus.
