Use of luteolin (Ia), its derivatives of formula (I) and (II) and their salts as HMG-CoA-reductase indirect inhibitors is new: R1 - R5 = H, OH, O-acyl, phenoxy, 1-6C alkoxy, O-glycosyl, or O-glucuronide where R1 is not OH if R2 =H or OH and R3 - R5 = OH. (Ia), (I ) and (II) are prepared by extraction from fresh artichoke leaves by extraction with water, precipitation of high molecular weight molecules with ethanol, filtration and elution on a polyamide chromatography column. |
