PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ion exchange membrane electrolytic cell for which the deterioration of an ion exchange membrane is prevented by improving the corrosion resistance of a gasket having specific volumetric resistivity and which has excellent durability by tightening a chamber frame constituting an electrode chamber and an ion exchange membrane via this gasket interposed therebetween. SOLUTION: The tightening type ion exchange membrane electrolytic cell, such as electrolytic cell for an aq. alkali chloride soln., is formed by tightening the window frame and the ion exchange membrane via the gasket interposed therebetween. At this time, the gasket of >=5×10<9>Ω.cm volumetric resistivity under the same pressure as the tightening pressure of the electrolytic cell is used as the gasket described above. The gasket is preferably formed by mixing an elastic polymer and carbon black at a weight ratio of the elastic polymer/the carbon black = 30/70 to 95/5 and vulcanizing the mixture at need. The elastic polymer described above is preferably EPDM and the carbon black is preferably MT carbon or FT carbon. As a result, the leakage of a slight current is prevented and the corrosion resistance of the gasket and the durability of the ion exchange membrane are improved. |
