FELT HAVING IMPROVED BOTH SURFACE STRUCTURE AND USED FOR PRODUCING PAPER AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a felt for producing paper, excellent in water filterability and water removability on the insides of felt loops by thermally treating the ends of butt fibers inserted into the spaces of a base fabric layer from a butt layer by a needling method to reduce the free surface of the ends of the butt fibers. SOLUTION: This felt for producing paper is obtained by inserting polyamide fibers having a cross section of about 0.00002-0.00003 mm<2> into spaces opened toward the bottom of a base fabric layer 1 having a weight of 500-20,000 g/m<2> from a butt layer 2 placed on the side of a paper sheet by a needling method, and subsequently thermally treating the ends 5, 6 of the inserted polyamide fibers with hot air flows, electromagnetic wave heating pulses, etc., to shorten, thicken or loop the polyamide fibers. Thus, the free surface areas of the butt fiber ends 5, 6 are reduced to give the felt for producing paper, good in water filterability.
