PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such a gas generator, for which explosives are used, as being capable of adjusting an inflating speed by partly inflating an air bag with the release of only a certain amount of gas or completely inflating the air bag with the release of the maximum amount of gas, depending on status. SOLUTION: A gas generator 1 is formed with a cylindrical housing 2 having a side wall 3 closed at both ends. The housing into the upstream part 9 and the downstream part 10 with a lateral plate 6. The upstream part 9 has a tube 16 for separating two combustion chambers 17, 18 in a gas tight condition, the chambers having explosives 19, 20, respectively. An electric ignitor 5 is formed with an initiator having two heads 21, 22, the initiator being assembled in a switch bridge having four switches connected to a circuit with a diode. In this way, only one of the heads 21, 22 can be initiated as required or both heads can be initiated at a programmed time difference. |
