PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for forming images whereby an exposure light source body can be cleaned automatically. SOLUTION: A head-shading data-sampling part 216 reads out a predetermined image for a head-shading part 212 to perform head-shading to correct an exposure irregularity of an exposure light source body, whereby head-shading data are sampled. When it is judged on the basis of a value of the sampled head-shading data to be necessary to remove stain of the exposure light source body, the exposure light source body is automatically cleaned.
